The Last Book in the Universe by Rodman Philbrick

posted Oct 21, 2010 11:34:00 by beenieweenie
This book is a very odd, but interesting book. It is definitely a science fiction book. The setting takes place sometime in the future on an earth that has long ago been mostly destroyed by a devastating earthquake(The Big Shake). There are gangs and ganglords who go around eliminating anyone who gets in their way. People try to escape from reality by becoming addicted to needles inserted in the brain which give them realistic mind shows with images of a perfect world. Mindprobes have replaced drugs, TV and video games, but they are beginning to disrupt the 'leadership' of the latchlords, bringing anarchy and total destruction to the Urbs.
Spaz, the main character, a human teenager and an epileptic, finds out that his sister is dying in another latch and is determined to visit her one last time, no matter how dangerous the journey will be. He goes through extreme adventures and meets some interesting and sometimes horrifying characters and situations.

WARNING: a bit violent and scary in places!!
